Tourist attraction

It exhibits among its main merits an enormous natural and scenic wealth. Of particular interest is the Mirador de Monserrate, from which you can admire in all its splendor the Yumurí Valley, surrounded by low-elevation mountains that is crossed by the river that gives it its name. Its serene beauty, muse of poets, musicians and painters, enjoys the reputation of being one of the most beautiful views in Cuba. About this Valley it was written: "Only Adam and Eve are missing to make it paradise."

There is another viewpoint in the place known as Canímar Abajo, a name that designates a valley and the river that runs through it. This valley is populated by thick vegetation and caves. Being the cave site "Canímar Abajo" the largest open-air aboriginal cemetery in Cuba and one of the largest in the Antilles.

Existence of the Hersey electric passenger train, the only one of its kind in Cuba that connects the city of Matanzas with Havana, whose route crosses the Yurumí Valley, from where excellent panoramic views can be seen.

Existence of the Palmar de Junco Stadium with a Matanzas Baseball Hall of Fame.

Among its natural beauties, the famous Cuevas de Bellamar and the Yumurí Valley, which borders the City and is probably the second best known in Cuba after the Viñales Valley. Likewise, the Palacio de Junco and Farmacéutico museums, the Sauto Theater, the “La Vigía” Cultural Center and the Hermitage of Monserrate are attractive.
