The December 14 l828 Ferdinand VII, Spanish Rey, his first shield of weapons conceded the metropolis, answering to the expressed petition of the local town council. This emblem was in use during all the colonial epoch to l898. With the establishment of the Republic in l902 to adapt the shield to the new political conditions became necessary.
